Joe, thanks for the feedback in how you've used cards for workouts. Cards are a great way to change it up and make a workout hard and mentally refreshing. I'm glad you like the site and I'll continue to do my best to bring challenging workouts and share ideas that can assist those like us looking to push the limits. Please feel free to comment as you like and/or offer thoughts on good workouts.

I used to do a similar work out after wrestling practices. Except jacks were 12, queens were 14, kings were 15, and aces were 25. For the exercises I used airsquats/kb swings for hearts, pull-ups and chin-ups (or kb snatches if I wasn't around a bar) for diamonds, handstand push ups for clubs, and ab/core exercises for spades. Towards the end of the season I started adding in the jokers for 40 reps, one joker being for air squats and one for kb swings. I did this at least three times a week, sometimes more if I felt up to it. I lost 5 pounds in under two weeks (after already working out two or more times a day to cut down to wrestling weight) and stamina and recovery times went through the roof. Thanks for the site, by the way. Great place to mix up my workouts or just find inspiration.

Yes, the lot size helps accomdate certain things, like # of guy's working out, running long strides...be it tire flip, pulling sled, etc., but as you said, much of the stuff I listed does not take up too much space, much of it can be used in small spaces (e.g. my basement gym is small, but still allows for big time workouts). And best of all, although equipment costs can add up, the "old school" stuff is affordable...you could equip yourself to the max with old school stuff for under $2,000 and that's what it costs for one machine, that only does one thing at the glitz gyms. The key is to start and add equip, little by little. Some of the old school equip. is a treasure hunt, for instance, a tractor tire is free if you can find it...tire places have to pay to junk a tire, so when you find one, they're usually happy for you to take it off your hands.

Man I hope my next home sit on a double lot because I'm getting a tractor tire ASAP. An a lot of that "old school" equipment you name does'nt take up much space and can be easily stored away.

Yes, very tough...we did it at Karate class and we cut it short becasue guys were dropping and we were approaching 30 minutes...had to cut to get to self-defense. I'm going to keep trying it and set my goal to complete in under 25 minutes. Also, you might want to try doing just 1/3 (pick the push-up portion or other) and do that as part of a workout. I did the pull-up portion yesterday by itself and it took me 12 minutes...my back is sore today.

Whatever you do, just do...never quit and you will soon be AN USTOPPABLE FORCE!

Antonio, well said...I like your idea on "reprgraming our thinking", that is good advice to endure our challenges in an out of the gym. Train hard!

I agree John..If you feel good while working out then by all means enjoy!!! The natural default mode for the brain is to quite, we must reprogram our thinking and convince ourselves to push harder when that lung burning sensation comes and say "That's a good feeling.. I think I'll continue ".
